Water Resources Programs

Animal Feeding Operation Program
A true demonstration of voluntary efforts at work and the agriculture communities commitment to water quality, the WACD in partnership with the livestock industry, is currently implementing  a grant program aimed at assisting agriculture cowsweb.jpg (4547 bytes) producers in addressing water quality concerns caused by animal feeding operations.  Twenty-one demonstration sites are being established around Wyoming.  The technical assistance for these projects was provided in part by the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service.  These sites are located in Platte County (2), Goshen County (5), Natrona County (2), Washakie County (2), Crook County (2), Carbon County (4), Big Horn County (1), Hot Springs County (2), Lincoln County (1).  This program is funded in part through a section 319 grant from the US EPA and the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality.  WACD developed a brochure aimed at educating producers on  laws & liabilities, potential  pollutants, best management practices  and other issues related to confined livestock operations.  Included  in this brochure is a producer self-evaluation that can be utilized to determine if the operation has the potential to impact water quality.

Septic System Tool Kit
To help local conservation districts address homeowner septic system issues, WACD has developed a septic system tool kit for districts to localize.
The tool kit includes an informational brochure, suggested ranking criteria, a homeowner self-assessment and a homeowner contract. Each document can be edited to include local information and regulations.

The tools were developed by WACD in cooperation with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality as part of WACD’s 319 grant. The Non-Point Source task force reviewed the information in late May. For more information on the septic system program and how it ties in to watershed planning, contact the WACD watershed coordinator at 632-5716.  More septic system information can be found on the EPA's website.
