Background
In 1996, Big Goose and Little Goose Creek were listed as impaired due to
fecal coliform. In 2000, the following waters were added to the list of
impaired waters due to exceedences of the fecal coliform standard: Goose
Creek, Park Creek, Beaver Creek, Soldier Creek, Jackson Creek Kruse
Creek, Sacket Creek, Park Creek, and Rapid Creek. In 2004, McCormick
Creek was also added due to fecal coliform.
Monitoring Activities -
Sampling and Analysis Plan
The Sheridan County CD, from 2001 to 2002, monitored on 46 stations in
the watershed. Interim monitoring will be conducted in the spring and
fall of 2005 at 19 stations.
Planning
The Goose Creek watershed plan was released for public comment in
October 2004. The plan was submitted to WDEQ in December 2004 for
approval. The plan was filed in April 2005 with the County Clerk.
Implementation Activities
There have been eight completed AFO projects with two additional
projects are being implemented The SCCD has also selected four septic
system for replacement. The District developed, and continued to update,
a progress register to inform the public. As part of the information &
education efforts, the district published a Goose Creek Water Assessment
2001-2002 summary booklet which was distributed to the city and county
as well as approximately 500 residents. Animal Feeding Operation
workshops were held to inform livestock producers of regulations and
management practices. The district also conducted a Goose Creek
watershed project logo contest. Several other educational activities
have been implemented.
Participants
Representatives from Sheridan County Planning and Engineering offices,
the City of Sheridan, Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality,
Wyoming Game and Fish, large subdivisions and feedlots, landowners, and
residents attended the planning meetings.
