Little Powder River
Background
The Little Powder River, from the Wyoming/Montana state line upstream an
undetermined distance, was listed in 2002 as threatened by fecal
coliform.
Monitoring Activities
Monitoring began on Little Powder River in April 2002 and continued
through October 2003. Monitoring was conducted at two stations on the
Little Powder River. The CCCD sampled each year in the spring and fall.
Each station was sampled a minimum of five times in thirty days when
water was present.
Planning
The Campbell County CD has initiated the watershed planning process on
Little Powder River. CCCD is in the beginning phases of plan development
and anticipate the plan being completed in the Spring 2006.
Implementation Activities
Implementation began in October 2004. Currently there are four septic
rehabilitation and two Animal Feeding Operation projects in the Little
Powder River watershed. The District is anticipating 32 septic projects
and four to five Animal Feeding Operation projects in the Little Powder
River and Belle Fourche watersheds between October 2004 and December
2006. The analysis and final report on the project will be written in
2007.
Participants
The steering committee is comprised of landowners, County, DEQ, NRCS,
and District representatives. There is a total of 15 members on the
Little Powder River watershed committee.
