Conservationist; Olin Sims, WACD President.)
Roger
Cox, District Conservationist for the Saratoga-Encampment-Rawlins
Conservation District, is this year’s WACD Outstanding
Conservationist of the Year. Roger has been instrumental in
helping
Carbon
County
conservation districts handle their animal feeding operation issues.
Roger has shown great leadership and expertise in the area of AFO/CAFOs,
demonstrating an outstanding ability to work with local landowners to
develop practical, reasonable solutions to animal waste problems.
Subsequently, he was also tapped to serve as one of the NRCS’s three
multi-county AFO/CAFO positions. His
straightforward approach helps landowners develop attainable,
cost-effective plans that put conservation practices where they are
needed most – on the ground. Roger also worked closely with
Carbon
County
conservation districts in determining
EQIP cost-share rates on rangeland and irrigation practices. For
more than 16 years, Roger has been sensitive to the needs and concerns
of local producers, developing plans and objectives that are common
sense and beneficial to everyone involved.
