Irrigation
Water Management Program
Implemented
to provide technical assistance on proper irrigation management
practices.
Introduction
The
South Big Horn County and Shoshone Conservation Districts,
in conjunction with Washakie and Hot Springs County
Conservation Districts implemented an Irrigation Water
Management Program in 2000 for the local producers in their
areas. The program was assisted by a federal grant. The goal was
to provide information and education through workshops,
demonstrations sites and publications to increase
awareness of efficiency in water management.
An Irrigation Specialist, Laura Galloway (of Ten
Sleep, WY) was hired to develop the components of the program.
Galloway grew up on a ranch in Colorado and worked for a
Conservation District there with education and field work
responsibilities for 3 ½ years.
Educational
demonstrations at fairs and trade shows were presented. Tours
were organized with cooperators on irrigation systems with new
and existing technologies. Irrigation Field Handbooks and other
publications assembled by Galloway are now available in the
office. Following are some of the
publications. Call for information, 765-2483.
