- Diamond Tail Ranch

Stan
& Mary Flitner
Stan
& Mary's ancestors came from Ireland & England and immigrated to
the Big Horn Basin to ranch in 1906. Stan grew up on the
family ranch at Shell, Wyoming and Mary in Sublette Co. The Flitners
enjoy the weather, mountain scenery, and lifestyle of the farming
profession and have chosen to live their lives in the beautiful Wyoming
Big Horns.
The Stan & Mary
Flitner family includes four grown children who loved their ranch
upbringing and had hoped to continue ranching. Only two of the offspring
are still in agriculture at this time.
The Flitners are
interested in keeping their mountain scenery the way it appears now.
They have invested in improving and keeping riparian habitat secure and
utilized appropriate grazing management techniques to help keep it that
way. Two wetland projects have been established with the cooperation of
Natural Resources Conservation Service. Gated pipe and a sprinkler
system also in use on the Flitner ranch help ease land erosion,
management work load, and help save water.
The Flitners feel
somewhat uncertain of the future of farming/ranching. They feel that
there is instability in public lands use and are a bit reserved in their
assessment. They only hope to continue enjoying the beauty of their
Wyoming home.
