2006 Area III Supervisor of the Year

The annual WACD (Wyoming Association of Conservation Districts) Area III meeting was hosted on September 8, 2006 at the Hyattville Community Center. The Area III Supervisor Award was presented during the noon luncheon by Pete Jachowski, Area III WACD Board Director. Nancy was nominated by her fellow SBHCD Supervisors.
Nancy was elected to the South Big Horn Conservation District Board four years ago. She has been a very dedicated supervisor and is always willing to give of her time. Nancy has been very faithful in her attendance at Board meetings and has served as a member of the local Water Quality Steering Committee from its inception. Nancy comes to the Board with a strong background in water quality issues, wildlife issues and, of course, an excellent ag background.
Nancy and her husband, John, own a farm on the Nowood River near Manderson. They have two sons, Sam, who is attending college, and Jeff who is still a student at Riverside High School in Basin. They are also co-owners of a bird hunting operation that is housed on their property. Nancy and John have been very generous donors to the WACD auction each year by providing one of their well-known bird hunts.
Even though Nancy has spent many years confined to a wheelchair, it never gets her down. She always has a positive attitude and never gives up. Nancy has taught all of the rest of us on the Board to appreciate life and to keep pushing forward even though we get discouraged. Nancy still helps lamb their small farm flock of sheep and does many, many chores around the farm as well as helps manage the financial end of the farm and the bird farm.
Nancy is a member of the Episcopal Church in Basin and never quits working for that organization, either. She helps with all of their activities and is one of the main workers for their annual rummage sale. Nancy is also a very good grant writer and just obtained a grant to help fund an ice skating rink in Basin. Everywhere Nancy gives her time, projects move forward. Nancy has always given freely of her time to support school activities and has volunteered time helping in the classrooms.
