Platte County Resource District Windbreak
Cost-Share Program
General Program Objectives
The Windbreak Cost-Share program was developed by
the Platte County Resource District to help landowners in Platte County
with the cost of installing a well designed and quality windbreak. PCRD
has developed a set of guidelines and requirements for cooperators to
follow in order to be eligible for cost-share assistance.

Project Requirements
-
Landowner must own a minimum of 2 acres
where planting is to be established. All projects must encompass
at least .55 acres of protected area (10 x HxL)/43560’.

All plantings must be installed in a
feasible location to meet conservation objectives with a minimum
of 3 rows 400’ long.

All planting sites must be prepared prior
to planting season.

Livestock must be excluded from planting
site after completion.

All leeward rows (inside rows) must be at
least 100’ from any building. It also needs to be located a safe
distance (85’) from driveways and roads to avoid excessive snow
accumulation. Windbreaks planted near and parallel to public
roads will be at least 200’ from the centerline of the road to
the leeward side.

It is the landowner’s responsibility to
make sure there are no overhead or underground utilities and to
contact utility companies to have the area marked prior to
ground preparation.

The District will cost-share on site prep,
seedling trees, weed barrier, tree protectors, irrigation system
materials and installation costs.

Weed barrier must be used in all
cost-share windbreaks.
Funding
The Windbreak Cost-Share program is a matching
program of 50% of the total project cost not to exceed $1,000.00. All
projects are pre-approved by the District Board of Supervisors and all
projects are required to meet PCRD/NRCS technical standards and
specifications.
