Upcoming Workshops

June 12th is the Festo Riparian Restoration and Russian Olive Removal Project Field Day. The Technical Team invites the public for a tour of the Russian Olive Removal Project which took place starting in October 2007. Multiple speakers will cover a wide variety of topics and demonstrations. Persons interested in joining the field day should meet at the east side of Festo Lake at 9 a.m. on June 12th. Group transportation will be available between stops from Festo. The tour will conclude at noon and a picnic lunch will be provided. Bring your own outdoor chair for lunch. Please RSVP your intent to attend by June 6th so we may plan for lunch. RSVP to the Platte County Resource District at 322-9060.

June 26th is the Carbon Credit Trading Workshop. The Southeastern Wyoming RC&D Council will host a Carbon Credit Trading Workshop in Wheatland on June 26th from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm at the First State Bank Conference Center in Wheatland. The evening will be spent informing producers about carbon credit trading as a way to enhance profits by marketing the carbon dioxide they store in the soil. Among the speakers are Farmers Union Carbon Credit Program lead Liz Mathern, ranchers Larry Cundall, Don Smathers, and Rocky Foy, and NRCS District Conservationist Tim Becket. The North Dakota Farmers Union are certified Aggregators of carbon credits and are seeking producers to participate in carbon credit trading programs facilitated by the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX). The workshop will explain the economic value and natural resource benefits of carbon credit trading on rangelands, croplands, and forestlands. The workshop is free and food and refreshments will be served compliments of the North Dakota Farmers Union.

June 27th is Range Day at the ranch of Kerry and Clara Powers. Their ranch is located west of Wheatland off of Palmer Canyon and Kittell Road. The Range Day will begin at 9:00 a.m.and will conclude with lunch at 12:00. Lunch will be provided by the Platte Valley National Bank of Wheatland. Persons interested in joining the Range Day Tour should RSVP to the Platte County Resource District at 307-322-9060.

July 18th will be the Park & Rec’s Special Friday Fire and Ice - Solar Cooking put on by the PCRD. We will be testing different types of solar cookers while learning about the process of solar cooking. After turning up the heat in the solar cookers, we will be making homemade ice cream. Ages 6 to 12 welcome. Please register with the Parks & Recreation office at 322-9254.
