PAM
(POLYACRYLAMIDE)
Pam is an economical and effective material that nearly
eliminates erosion and sediment loss produced during irrigation. Pam comes in
several different forms. The cost is just a few dollars per acre.
The liquid form of Pam is specifically formulated to be injected directly into
the water flow of a sprinkler system. This soil stabilizer is very effective in
low-flow irrigation systems and will consistently flow into irrigation water
without plugging the system. This form is also beneficial for dryland
applications.
The crystals can be dispensed into an open ditch, gated
pipe or directly in the furrow during the initial advance across a field. They
are a dry form of polymer and require an applicator to apply them to the field.
Tablets are the simplest form of polymer. They are also ideal for gated pipe,
flood and siphon tube irrigation. They do not require an applicator and
generally last longer than the other forms. They can be applied by place one or
two in each furrow, or added to an open head ditch by placing some in a sack or
basket directly into the water flow.
Polyacrylamide is a soil amendment specifically formulated
to stabilize soil structure. It is very environmentally safe because it breaks
down into carbon dioxide, water and ammonium-N under field conditions.
