LIVING SNOW FENCE

The Washakie County Conservation District (WCCD) received grant funding approval from Wyoming State Forestry Division in 2005, to install a high-density Living Snow Fence south of Ten Sleep.  The WCCD was assisted by Washakie County in the site preparation and fence building.  The Wyoming Boys School and Natural Resource Conservation Service also helped with fence building, the Ten Sleep Sage Stompers 4-H Club planted 140 Rocky Mountain Juniper trees and helped install the drip irrigation system, and the Boys Scouts built wire cages to keep wildlife from destroying the trees.  The District hired a summer employee to fill a water storage tank, which is at the site, was to enable the windmill to pump water, through the drip system, to water the trees. The Living Snow Fence is on State Land, which is leased by the Orchard Ranch.  The District will maintain the trees for seven years.
