Big Horn Basin Irrigation Water Management Program

The Washakie County Conservation District (WCCD) provides the technical assistance for the irrigation program, which includes measuring flow using the Ultrasonic Flow Meter, explaining the use of Gypsum Blocks, teaching students about irrigation, and providing information to the public about different types of irrigation water management.

An Irrigator’s Pocket Guide was developed through the program that is a take to the field handbook. The Guide is full of Irrigation Water Management and Equipment Maintenance information. Get your copy today and read up on the helpful information before the next irrigation season starts.

Gypsum Blocks are an economical and accurate management tool for irrigation systems.  They provide users with information on when to irrigate and what crops need to be watered first.  The gypsum blocks are available through our office. We also have a brochure explaining how they work and can provide help with the installation and reading of them.

Surge Valves are an easy to operate addition to your gated pipe system that can save you water, time, labor and money while reducing runoff, giving more uniformity and increasing production.

We have information on PAM products if you are interested in learning more about PAM. Call or come by the office for a list of Polymer suppliers, questions or help with initial installation.

Water Measurement Instruments are a necessary tool for all irrigators. Information on the different types of devices is available in our office. We also have an Ultrasonic Flow Meter, which is used to measure the flow in all types of pipes. Call for an appointment.
