Animal Feeding Operation Program
A true demonstration of voluntary efforts at work and the agriculture communities commitment to water quality, the WACD in partnership with the livestock industry, implemented  a grant program aimed at assisting agriculture cowsweb.jpg (4547 bytes) producers in addressing water quality concerns caused by animal feeding operations.  Twenty-one demonstration sites were established around Wyoming.  The technical assistance for these projects was provided in part by the USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service.  These sites are located in Platte County (2), Goshen County (5), Natrona County (2), Washakie County (2), Crook County (2), Carbon County (4), Big Horn County (1), Hot Springs County (2), Lincoln County (1).  This program was funded in part through a section 319 grant from the US EPA and the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality.  WACD developed a brochure aimed at educating producers on  laws & liabilities, potential  pollutants, best management practices  and other issues related to confined livestock operations.  Included  in this brochure is a producer self-evaluation that can be utilized to determine if the operation has the potential to impact water quality.
